Tonight’s sketchings…

I had a loooong day in the studio working on commissioned stuff today, consequently, my eye and brain were sufficiently tuned enough to work directly onto the paper using an old biro to draw this doodle in front of the telly this evening…

Elfmother…

I’ve just been commissioned to paint a ‘real’ version of this old digital painting. I’ll probably be using watercolour and gouache and I’m very much looking forward to it. I thought I’d add the steps I take to get to the final image here.

Here’s the drawing transferred onto a sheet of tracing paper, ready to lay onto the sheet of watercolour paper…

Dr. Martins Inks…

tree bloke_colours_sml

I was recently lucky enough to have won a set of inks by the brilliant U.S. based manufacturer, Dr. Martins. They’re so much fun to use. I usually paint away at this kind of thing with watercolours, the technique is similar but has a few differences that sets it apart not least of which is the drying time…so much quicker. I’m very much looking forward to having some time to spend with these at some point…

(As always, the art is available to purchase, message me for details)
