These water scenes are dominating my (spare) painting time lately, I want to paint more and more. I adore the process of looking into the reference shots and making sense of the chaotic patterning. Having fun!

Took a whole heap of fabulous photos on the weekend, dearly wanted to paint one of the cygnets I took pics of. This little watercolour is 3 x 4″, I’m definitely going to paint a larger one, most enjoyable
very much enjoying having the watercolours out again. My life right now is pretty hectic and having these sorts of paintings on the go is a GREAT way to de-stress and focus on something other than ‘stuff’. Recommended.

I’ve been messing around with the watercolours for a week or so, will upload more soon, in the meantime, here are a couple of very small watercolour paintings from last year based on photos from my UK trip.

When my sons were very young, they used to collect stones for me, as a sort of love gesture, I saved many of them and kept them in tubs. I pulled out a few out earlier today and painted them, great subjects for finding the hidden little nuances that you wouldn’t normally pay attention to (as with the shells (posted earlier)) each stone is unique…

Here’s a recent watercolour painting I made of my son walking along the beach on the Gold Coast. I used rougher paper than usual, it seems perfectly suited to water-related subject matter, will pursue this….

I’ve been busy working on this stuff for the past couple of months for a children’s book by the lovely Robin Adolphs, hopefully due for a Christmas release.
