Bins…

I liked this drawing from a few months ago, thought I’d tighten things up with some scratchy line art…

Page Three…

Really enjoying this stuff right now and very happy with how they’re coming together. Here’s the latest one (that great big white area in the middle has been left for text btw)…

Of Mice and…

I haven’t drawn my little mouseĀ ‘Finn MacNiall’,Ā for a while, going to open up the box and see what happens- I need something to sink my teeth into and this little guy is currently squeeking up. More to follow…

Rabbit Hops Across The Rocks…

rabbit_stream3_smlThis is sort of how I’m feeling right now. I have an exhibition I’ve been preparing for this past year and in the meantime have struggled to stay afloat, have been stuck in limbo and have been running on a ‘hope’ of sorts. The exhibition is on the 11th February, a special day for me as it’s my brother’s birthday,Ā (he’s sadly no longer with us). I’m not sure what to think about the show, I’ve put the work in but there’s no guarantee it’s going to pay off in any way, as I said, living in hope. At least I’ll have plenty of work to sell at the end of it.

These Critter drawings are a lot of fun, (see recent posts for more) –Ā if anyone knows of a publisher hiring illustrators who like drawing fluffy creatures and trees, let me know, I have a feeling I’ll be illustrating again this year…

Critters…

It’s been a very productive week or so and these critter drawings haveĀ (almost) been drawing themselves. I foundĀ my ‘line art’ voice again after workingĀ  in acrylic and oilĀ for most of last year- hope this bodes well for what the New Year will bring creatively. WillĀ soon be looking to find a way to let these out into the world as prints…

More Cards…

Been scratching away at these in my spare time, REALLY enjoying working with line art for the first time in a long while.

Here’s the 4 of cups as I see it…

4 cups_colours_sml1Ā I know artists usually reinterpret the deck, but I love the symbolism of the Rider Waite deckĀ and seeĀ no reason to change it. What I am hoping to achieve is a slightly less ‘sketchy’ look, hope that doesn’t come across as too arrogant…

Here’s how ‘The Magician’ is shaping up so far…

On The Run…

been working on more Finn MacNiall stuff for my VALIANT project. Here’s Finn, on the run…

And I wanted to try something out, using watercolours, looking for a style that also involves some linework. (apologies for the scan)

VALIANT…

I’ve been dusting off my old Finn MacNiall drawing skills (character from my VALIANT project). Had a chat with the writer, hopefully, we’ll be onto this soon. It’s been far too long…

Roots- Lots of Roots…

Finished this one.

I’ve also uploaded the before and after shot. You can see that I literally ‘drew’ with the ink. Lots of fun, a little scary, but worth the challenge…

Crow Girl…

I’ve just been commissioned to redraw one of my old drawings. Enjoyed this very much as I haven’t done much in pen and ink for a very long time…It was originally based on CDL’s Crow Girls, in case anybody asks šŸ™‚

Warming Up…

I have a LOT of work on at the moment and I kind of have to stay as sharp as I can, no point rolling out of bed, all bleary-eyed and stumbling into the studio to begin working on my commissioned stuff if I’m all tired and rusty.
After a quick cup of coffee this morning I sat down and doodled these, approx. 25 mins of sketching. It’s evident that after I sketched the first page, I was substantially more ‘warmed up’, the second page (with the birds) shows much more confident and more honed lines.
Wildlife books provide great reference for this kind of thing…
btw, I used my new Bosto Kingtee to draw these, (see earlier post for a video demo)
