Running From The Monster…

A quick lunchtime doodle. Having SO much fun with my art lately…

Library Sketching…

I draw. ALL THE TIME. It’s the only way to become any good at anything, to do it. And to keep on doing it…

Sketching and drawing and painting all help each other, idle sketches like this (from good reference books) help the hand-eye relationship and steady the lines, I made these sketches directly in sepia pen on crappy notepad paper and would recommend this no-pressure doodling to anyone who wants to better their craft.

Cygnet…

Took a whole heap of fabulous photos on the weekend, dearly wanted to paint one of the cygnets I took pics of. This little watercolour is 3 x 4″, I’m definitely going to paint a larger one, most enjoyable

🙂

Small Rocks…

When my sons were very young, they used to collect stones for me, as a sort of love gesture, I saved many of them and kept them in tubs. I pulled out a few out earlier today and painted them, great subjects for finding the hidden little nuances that you wouldn’t normally pay attention to (as with the shells (posted earlier)) each stone is unique…

Recommended.

Chickens…

chickens3_smlI’ve been drawing a LOT of birds lately. I recently had the good fortune to study and photograph some chickens, wonderful creatures, amazing to watch them in action and great fun to draw, love their body language and the challenge of finding the right ‘lines’.

Warming Up…

Working hard on the book still, ‘The Fantasy Artroom’ is still on for being ready by April, so keep a look out…
Here’s a sketch I made to warm up this morning…

Unicorn.

Here’s (another) Unicorn drawing. I need as much help drawing horsies as I can get.
I’m currently busy with commissions and compiling ideas and things for my Kickstarter project, will post more about that soon.

Warming Up…

I have a LOT of work on at the moment and I kind of have to stay as sharp as I can, no point rolling out of bed, all bleary-eyed and stumbling into the studio to begin working on my commissioned stuff if I’m all tired and rusty.
After a quick cup of coffee this morning I sat down and doodled these, approx. 25 mins of sketching. It’s evident that after I sketched the first page, I was substantially more ‘warmed up’, the second page (with the birds) shows much more confident and more honed lines.
Wildlife books provide great reference for this kind of thing…
btw, I used my new Bosto Kingtee to draw these, (see earlier post for a video demo)

Tonight’s sketchings…

I had a loooong day in the studio working on commissioned stuff today, consequently, my eye and brain were sufficiently tuned enough to work directly onto the paper using an old biro to draw this doodle in front of the telly this evening…

Watercolouring…

I’m working digitally on most of my commissioned work at the moment which always leaves me desperate to paint traditionally, I satisfied that urge in front of the telly last night with my watercolours, painting this small scene- 5 1/2 x 4″. (It’ll appear larger here than the original.)

Aslan.

haven’t done much idle sketching lately, I’ve been so busy and I miss it, I rectified that in front of the telly last night with this one…
