Friends…

This drawing came hot on the heels of the image I worked on last night, a great excuse to play with some line art after working in colour for most of last week…

The Meeting Place…

whale and dolphins7_smlWhere the land meets the sea. One from yesterday. I often think of the mess we’re making in our oceans and how the ocean dwellers have to deal said mess. We’re doing the same to our land too and it’s our children who have to deal with it. Here. we have innocents of both land and sea, completely trusting one another, lovingly…

A Tortoise And A Hare…

Life’s sort of unfolding at a strange pace right now, I feel full of creative energy, overflowing almost yet the Universe seems to be wanting to hold me in some kind of meditative state, to reflect and grow, must have channelled this particular image because I didn’t  consciously create it…

Aussies…

Have been working on this one today, thoroughly enjoying the process of working on these samples as it’s been a while since I worked on any children’s illustrations. Would LOVE to get a book illustration gig working on a book of Aussie characters like these guys…

Rabbit Hops Across The Rocks…

rabbit_stream3_smlThis is sort of how I’m feeling right now. I have an exhibition I’ve been preparing for this past year and in the meantime have struggled to stay afloat, have been stuck in limbo and have been running on a ‘hope’ of sorts. The exhibition is on the 11th February, a special day for me as it’s my brother’s birthday, (he’s sadly no longer with us). I’m not sure what to think about the show, I’ve put the work in but there’s no guarantee it’s going to pay off in any way, as I said, living in hope. At least I’ll have plenty of work to sell at the end of it.

These Critter drawings are a lot of fun, (see recent posts for more) – if anyone knows of a publisher hiring illustrators who like drawing fluffy creatures and trees, let me know, I have a feeling I’ll be illustrating again this year…

Trying Out A New Technique…

ottersbythewater_newtechnique1_smlPencils are pencils, inks are inks, digital is…erm… digital. Trying a 100% digital approach to achieve a ‘traditional’. ‘Why?’ you may ask… Speed. plain and simple. I’m fond of drawing these Critters but they have to fit around other stuff I have on the go.  I also think this approach would also work for book illustrations, when speed is of the essence, time is money, etcetc…

Complimentary Copies…

…Are the best!

I received my 12 complimentary copies of the new and improved (larger, updated) version of my ‘The Fantasy Artroom’ ‘How To’ fantasy art book today, a day after my birthday, what a superb gift! Happy is an understatement…

Watercolour Warmups…

As I’ve been working on my most recent children’s book in watercolour, it stands to reason that I should get into the right frame of mind with a loosening up session. I painted both of these this morning, both very enjoyable. I’ll do this more often…

A little Fae Bloke…

Sorry I haven’t been over here very much lately, I’ve been inundated with work on this book (which is now almost ready!!!) I’ll try my very best to get back into the swing of things soon.
In the meantime, here’s a doodle I made this morning…

And some good news…. I’ll be making my presence known in the UK for the first time in many years (chuckles). I’ll have a stand at the AVALAN FAERY BALL AND FAYRE in Glastonbury on the 8th-9th March. If you’re around, come and say Hi!…

Warming Up…

Working hard on the book still, ‘The Fantasy Artroom’ is still on for being ready by April, so keep a look out…
Here’s a sketch I made to warm up this morning…

**Note** Backers of a hard copy of the book now receive an #exclusive print, (see previous post)…And if we hit the stretch goals, there’ll be another one, please feel free to pass the news on to anyone who you feel would be interested!
