I spent yesterday afternoon in the rainforest with my son and came back with all kinds of inspiration. I love old roots curling and twirling around rocks and into the ground… just had to draw some as i was winding down after finishing my quota of work today….

I’m currently painting a watercolour of my son (at my wife’s constant request)…I’m rather pleased with how it’s going so far and enjoying it immensely- there’s something VERY satisfying about painting in watercolours.
I’m currently working on a YA cover. I took a break to have dinner and came back with little enthusiasm. I usually draw my way out of these slumps. This is what I drew tonight…

My wife was watching her crime shows on TV last night so I thought I’d get the drawing pad and pens out and do a little drawing:
I played around with the oil painting I posted yesterday digitally, someone mentioned they saw faces in the rocks, I picked up on this and ran with it….

I recently found this old painting from around nine years ago. It’s been sitting under a pile of my other art. I still rather like this one so thought I’d post it here so you’ll get an idea of the fine art side of my creative life that doesn’t make it’s way onto this blog too often….
I’ve recently illustrated three books for Blake Education (educational publisher) and got to illustrate two of them in black and white (my favourite medium). here are a few of the illustrations I produced for the books….
I’m absolutely totally and utterly busy right now…. (enough of an excuse to do some sketching for myself-(laughs)). here’s a little warmup drawing from this morning and an update of the image I’ve had on the go for the past few days…..

Here’s the drawing before I added the colour. I rather like this image, I may just tinker with it some more when I get a spare minute….
This was a great job to work on after such a long break away from the drawing board… It’s a cover for a book the wonderfully talented Sally Odgers is putting together, such an honour to be asked to paint this…..As you may have noticed from the WIP posted yesterday, I reversed the image as I went and settled on the lassie facing inwards, far more intimate IMO….

I’ve got so much work to do, but I’ve just gotten back from holidaying in New Zealand and I’m not in ‘work’ mode yet. I need to loosen up and myself in gently. Here’s the first sketchy thingy I’ve done to aid me in my plight…
