I’ve been working on this image on and off for a very long time. Due to work commitments, I only get to splash a little oil paint onto this every now and again. I’ve been feeling a little out of sorts when I settle down to work (due to the Christmas break), so I thought I’d add a little paint and loosen up this afternoon.
I didn’t manage to get a whole lot of art done over the yooltide break, but I did manage to finish this illustration off for the book. Just two more and the cover to go before I get onto my next project (which is vastly different in tone to this one).

I found this old watercolour I did quite a few years ago whilst I was rooting around through my old stuff. It’s good to see how much I’ve changed artistically, sometimes it feels as though somebody else did this work.
I’ve been interested in illustrating this story for a very long time. Every now and again, in my quiet moments, I like to have a bit of a play with scenes from the story. here’s tonight’s effort. For those interested, I’ve added steps I took to produce the image. Sorry I don’t have time to go into too much detail, however, should anyone have any questions I’d be happy to answer them. I just found this old painting underneath my pool table in amongst a whole heap of other work from the last decade or so. I still rather like it. Painted in Watercolour/Gouache and acrylic (with some coloured pencil scribbles here and there).
I’ve been wanting to get that ‘traditional’ look with my illustrations on the PC for quite some time. I’ve been playing with different brushes and textures in phoshop for a little while and am slowly getting the work to look as I picture it in my head. I’m fairly pleased with the way this little drawing looks when it’s coloured. this’ll be cropped and used for the title page of the book I’m currently working on.

I’m getting close to finishing the book I’m working on. I’m having a greattime with this book, it’s a little on the ‘cute’ side, but that’s allright. Nothing wrong with ‘cute’. Here’s the latest image. I’ve enclosed the preliminary line art also:
We had an incredibly powerful storm here today. Heres’a little scribble in honour of said storm. It’s a wee bit on the abstract side for me eh?

A new drawing for a book I’ll be spending more time on next year. I’m working in silhouettes for the book, which pleases me no end, it’s always a challenge to convey emotion in an image without the usual amount of detail.
Been working on my latest children’s picture book for a few weeks. Here’s one half of the latest one, just the line art at this point, I may post the finished version over the next day or two….

in my files as I was going through the PC at the moment. It’s reminding me that I need to sketch more. I always enjoyed drawing these images as looseners before beginning work on the books.
…And the good news is… one of my most recent picture book efforts-’Ponkidoodle’ has sold out. What a surprise. It’s been out for less than three months and all copies have been sold. It’s due to be reprinted, another 2000 paperback copies and 500 hardback copies. Needless to say, both the author neridah McMullin and I are very happy!

It’s been a long…hard…hot weekend, and the kids were particularly affected by the heat, so we’ve just put the kids to bed and I needed some space to myself to wind down. I wanted to do something with no pressure and I rather liked the original drawing (see earlier post), so I coloured it briefly in Photoshop.

Here’s my most recent illustration for the puppy picture book I’m working on…. Rather an interesting format to work with, the pages being landscape rather than portrait. I’ve done one other book in this manner and in all honesty, I’m still getting to grips with it.

Here’s the drawing for the title page of the book I’m working on at the moment. the rest of the book’s in colour (see recent posts), but I thought I’d do something a little different for the title page. Graphite is one of my favourite mediums.
I didn’t have much time to draw anything too elaborate today. I’m tidying up some art for a book I’ve had on the go for the past year (or so) and the deadline’s been brought forward so I’m working hard to get it looking as good as I can before my time’s up. here’s a dinosaur I drew in my lunch break:
